Communications Strategist and Founder of Hot Mustard PR.
Fifteen years ago, I jumped into the world of high-energy, fast-paced public relations. I worked for several large, global agencies that equipped me with the tools to craft a compelling story, reach media and influencers, and work collaboratively with every marketer at the brand dance. My clients were large in scale, demanding in nature, and almost always headquartered across the country. I was challenged and nearly burnt out and still, somehow, I thrived - and loved it.
Fast forward to 2016. I took on a side project for a local restaurant. You know, for fun (because raising small kids and working full time allows so much free time ). Instantaneously, I was hooked. I was able to work at my own pace (quickly). I was able to see my client face-to-face every week. And I felt like I was doing real, good work for my local community. It suddenly all made sense, and I jumped ship. Hot Mustard PR was born.
Long story short, I never looked back. I still collaborate with agencies, however my bread and butter are Twin Cities-based small to mid-sized companies that are mainly serving the local community. Many of those clients are restaurants, others are retailers, or entire retail districts in the case of 50th & France. I love that work for each client is never copy-paste, and there’s no one magical silver bullet. Each strategic plan is custom built, made to capture the attention of audiences that matter.
For the ability to run my own PR practice, I am indebted to my past agency experience and education. I was fortunate to have attended Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana, and received an M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University’s Medill School.
I’m a born and bred Minnesotan and, after a stint in Chicago, am back living in Minneapolis with my husband, Pete, three young daughters and huge, fluffy goldendoodle. I’m always dreaming of either cabin time or mountain time, as well as food … always food.
Thanks for checking out Hot Mustard PR, and I look forward to hearing from you!
